Entwicklungsperspektiven im Alter: Individuum, Gesellschaft und Kultur

The Gerontology Network Siegen (GeNeSi), in cooperation with the Research College Siegen (FoKoS), gave a public lecture on 03.12.2018 by Prof. Dr. phil. Dr. h.c. Dipl.-Psych. Andreas Kruse on the topic “Developmental Perspectives in Old Age: Individual, Society and Culture”. Mr. Kruse is Director of the Institute for Gerontology at the University of Heidelberg and for several years Chairman of the Expert Commission for the Federal Government’s Report on Ageing. In his lecture Prof. Kruse pointed out the importance of old age in its potentials as well as in its increased vulnerability. The great responsibility of society and culture for the shaping of old age, such as the age-friendly design of the social environment, also became clear. Prof. Kruse particularly emphasized the reciprocity of concerns that people in old age are not only cared for and nurtured, but also have a strong need to provide for themselves.

Members of GeNeSi as well as employees of the Institute for Gerontology at the TU Dortmund University had already exchanged views on these issues in a non-public working session prior to Mr. Kruse’s lecture.
